About Colleen
“I believe everyone can grow and make meaningful change in their life with the right support”
I initially created STC Therapy to support athletes dealing with the pressures of sports and life. However, through my own journey and conversations with healthcare professionals, I became increasingly aware of the lack of mental health support for those with scoliosis. This realization led me to refocus STC Therapy on helping individuals facing the emotional and psychological challenges that come with scoliosis and chronic pain. Everyone with scoliosis deserves to live a happy, healthy, and functional life, and I’m here to help make that a reality.
My Story
Growing up as a competitive figure skater, I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 11. Despite the physical challenges, I continued skating, even traveling each summer to Pennsylvania for intensive scoliosis-specific physiotherapy. Wearing a scolismart suit in high school was a significant struggle, especially as a teenager trying to fit in. Although I managed to compete at the Canadian Nationals in Pairs, my journey wasn’t without setbacks—a torn ACL and meniscus eventually sidelined me from sports for a time and led me to some of my darkest moments.
My journey with scoliosis wasn’t just physical; it took a toll on my mental health as well. The pressure to perform and the anxiety of living with a body that didn’t seem to cooperate led me to feel disconnected from myself. As I pursued my education in sport psychology, earning degrees in Sports Studies, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and ultimately Counselling Psychology, I realized how much I had neglected my own mental and physical well-being. I had accepted numbness and disconnection as a way of life, but deep down, I knew I needed to address these issues before they worsened.
It wasn’t until a conversation with my chiropractor in Toronto that I truly understood the mental health struggles so many scoliosis patients face. The anxiety, depression, and sense of isolation that often accompany the condition were experiences I knew all too well. This realization sparked a deep desire to bridge the gap between scoliosis care and mental health support, leading to the rebirth of STC Therapy.
As someone who has walked this path, I understand the unique challenges that come with scoliosis and chronic pain. I’ve had to learn to accept my body as it is and to find love and compassion for myself, despite the challenges. My goal now is to empower others to do the same—to address both their mental and physical health needs and to help them find peace, resilience, and a renewed sense of self.
I’m committed to helping you live a happy, healthy, and functional life, no matter what obstacles you face.

Timeline
2008
At 11 years old, my mom noticed something unusual when rubbing my back and "lost" my spine. This led to a visit to the family physician, who referred me for X-rays.
Not long after I was diagnosed with scoliosis. McMaster Hospital recommended immediate surgery, but we sought a second opinion at SickKids Hospital. Spent months researching and googling options.
2009
At 12, traveled to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for 2 weeks to receive Scolismart treatment with Dr. Clayton Stitzel. This specialized chiropractic and physical therapy care led to significant improvement in my curves. Continued this treatment for the next 3 summers, with the duration reduced to 1 week.
2009-2012
Throughout these years, I attended annual follow-ups with SickKids Hospital to monitor my condition. Appointment after appointment took a toll on my mental health.
Despite the challenges, I successfully medaled at the provincial championships for figure skating.
2010
My hard work and dedication paid off as I competed in Novice Pairs at Skate Canada Nationals. My mental health was looking up and I was excited to give it my all that season.
